🍁 mapleROO Reviewed on Better By Next Week: Real Ultra-Runner Feedback, Zero Filters

  • 3 min read

We’re incredibly proud to share that Better By Next Week, a popular endurance running podcast hosted by ultra runners Tim & Ollie, recently featured an in-depth, unscripted review of mapleROO across a full race-day nutrition test.

What makes this special?
This wasn’t a sponsored shout-out or a quick mention, it was real athletes using mapleROO for the first time in a demanding ultra-endurance race, then openly sharing exactly how it performed.

Ollie and Tim face to face trying mapleROO natural sport nutrition for the first time during a 100km ultra race. They love it! No gut issu, Top 10 and Ollie win.

The verdict? Overwhelmingly positive.

  • Ollie didn’t just win, he closed the race running 3:50/km after 80km
  • Tim felt so strong after 75km that he packed down the booth and recorded a podcast that same night.

That’s the power of mapleROO: clean, sustainable energy that lasts during and after the race, without gut issues. Because most of us don’t stop at the finish line. We still need energy to get home, show up for work, and be present for our families.

Natural fuel. Real endurance. No compromises.

Tested in Real Race Conditions - Not a Lab

During the episode, Tim & Ollie explained how they rebuilt their entire race nutrition plan using mapleROO products, including:

Tim hold a mapleROO Energy maple syrup Waffle (gluten free) and talks about how they performed so well during their 100km ultra race, no gut issue.

They followed a structured plan, roughly one gel and one waffle per hour, combined with the drink mix, sustaining energy levels for nearly 10 hours of racing.

Despite significantly increasing their carbohydrate intake compared to what they normally use, both runners reported consistent energy with no negative side effects.

“I Had Energy the Whole Day”

One of the strongest takeaways from the review was how stable and sustained the energy felt throughout the race.

“I feel like I had energy throughout the whole day.”

Even as the race intensity increased and fatigue set in, the runners noted they never felt flat or under-fuelled, something many endurance athletes struggle with late in long events.

Zero Gut Issues - Even After 10 Hours

For ultra runners, gut comfort can make or break a race. In this format, toilet breaks weren’t an option, making digestion critical.

Both hosts were very clear:

“I didn’t have a single gut issue. Not one.”

They highlighted:

  • No stomach distress
  • No urgent bathroom stops
  • No bloating or nausea
  • No taste fatigue, even late in the race

This is exactly why mapleROO exists: simple, natural ingredients that your body actually tolerates under stress.

Coffee Gel: A Standout Favourite

One product stole the show, the mapleROO Coffee Gel.

The hosts described it as genuinely enjoyable to consume mid-race, comparing it to the feeling of that first morning coffee, without the aggressive caffeine hit found in many gels.

At 25-30 mg of caffeine per gel, they noted it was:

Easy to dose hourly

Gentle on the system

Mentally uplifting late in the race

Waffles, Gels & Smart Fuelling

The runners also shared honest, nuanced feedback:

Waffles worked perfectly at lower intensities and even as a pre-race breakfast

As intensity increased late in the race, they naturally shifted toward more gels, not because of taste or digestion, but simply because chewing becomes harder at high effort

The gels were described as so easy to get down”, even at race pace

That adaptability, mixing products based on efforts, exactly how mapleROO is designed to be used.

The Result? Performance Speaks for Itself

The review wrapped with results that speak volumes:

One runner won the race

The other finished top 10

Both were using mapleROO for the first time ever

As one host put it:

“That says a lot about mapleROO.”
